(Library) VIOGNIER 2020 Estate Gannon Vyd, Dry Creek Valley

$ 58.00

Tasting Notes:
 Light straw color. Tangy crisp citrus. Fruit, flowers and minerality. Pear, mango, green kiwi, lemon zest, green papaya, almond marzipan, ground cherry, green apple, apricot, chamomile, hazelnut. Piquant, dry elegant finish. Sur lie aged.

 The Grape: Viognier is a delicate vine and does not produce big quantities. The fruit is small clustered with small, thin skinned transluscent berries.

The Vineyard: Frick's Estate Gannon Vineyard, on the south facing slope near the winery is good dirt for viognier. I planted this tiny vineyard in 1988 on decomposed Dry Creek Conglomerate soil. The vines have very low vigor and the grapes produced are full of classic viognier character. Production is always limited. This drought year of 2020 produced only 49 cases.

The Wine: Fermented and aged in small stainless steel barrels for crispness. Aged sur lie. Dry crisp acidity with sur lie complexity.

Drink now to 2025.  49 cases made.

Serve with: baked halibut, French bread with sweet butter, steamed mussels, split pea soup, sheep milk cheeses, Gulf prawns, fresh fruit salad, lobster, clam pasta, tuna casserole, oysters on half shell, papadum with butter chicken, clam pasta
