2005 Carignane, Mendocino County
$22.00 per bottle (only $19.80 when you buy a case or more*)
SOLD OUT

Tasting Notes:
Fresh blackberry and black cherry aromas.  Wild bramble berry, raspberry, ollalliberry and black cherry flavors. Ripe and complex with round soft tannins. Long lingering fruity finish.

The Grape:
100% Carignane - Harvested October 2005. Native of the Rhone River Valley, Southern France and Northern Spain.  The variety is a versatile blender used to add acid, color and body to other varieties.

The Vineyard:
Just west of Hopland in Mendocino County, a town once renowned for fine hops grown on rich Russian River silt, the Feliz Creek area is rocky and well drained with vineyards that date back to the 19th century.
This Carignane vineyard has survived every change and fad in wine trends.  The vines were planted over 100 years ago and offer low yield, solid old vine character. Maintaining tradition, the vineyard is head pruned (with no trellis) and dry farmed (not irrigated).

The Wine:
Here you will discover the intrigue of the Carignane grape on its own. A unique, memorable character bursts from the glass inviting return visits to the deep fruit and earth flavors. Taste and enjoy the flavor of California and world history from these old vines.  The 2005 vintage produced only 360 cases. Drink now to 2015.

Serve with:
Roast chicken, minestrone soup, leg of lamb, spaghetti squash, osso bucco.
