Tasting Notes:
Blackberry and black cherry aromas.  Wild blackberry, boysenberry, plum and black cherry flavor. Firm fruit tannins. Lingering fruity finish

The Grape:
Carignane as a late ripener and was harvested end of October 2006.  The grape was once very common with many acres planted in Sonoma County. But most of this variety was pulled out to replant to the, now, well know varietals. What’s left is old vine.  The variety is a versatile blender used to add flavor, acid, color and body to other varieties. One production is kept low carignane stands on it’s own in a noble manner.

This Vineyard, old vines:
Situated west of Hopland in Mendocino County, a town once renowned for fine hops grown on rich Russian River silt, the Feliz Creek area is rocky and well drained with vineyards that date back to the 19th century.
This carignane vineyard has survived every change and fad in wine trends.  The vines were planted over 100 years ago and offer low yield, solid old vine character. Maintaining tradition, the vineyard is head pruned (with no trellis) and dry farmed (not irrigated).
