2006 Garibaldi, Sonoma County,
Dry Creek Valley, Garibaldi Vineyard
$27. per bottle (only 24.30 when you buy a case or more)
SOLD OUT
Tasting Notes:
Light purple-red in the glass. Clear aromas of grape, strawberry
and cherry. Full berry flavors of red cherry, cranberry, red
currant and plum. Earthy soft finish.
The Grape:
Carignane, Grenache, Muscat Blanc, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Valdeque,
Palomino, Burger are some of the varieties that make up this “field
blend”. No one grape accounts for more that 20% of this
wine.
The Vineyard:
This is the oldest block of vines on the Frick Estate. Vine age is
about 65 years. The Vineyard is tiny and sits next to the tasting
room parking lot. The vineyard was named Garibaldi to honor my wonderful
mother-in-law Babe Garibaldi Gannon. Garibaldi Vineyard is a rare
example of a “field blend” were many compatible varieties
were planted mixed together in the same field.
The Wine:
The wine is bright with a unique fruit profile that is very delicious.
Versitile, and delightful. Aged in oak, one new, and one old
and neutral barrel. Very rare with only 56 cases made. Drink
now to 2012.
Serve with:
grilled cheese sandwich, zucchini frittata, spaghetti with red sauce,
leg of lamb, minestrone soup, tuna melt, and filet mignon.
