Tasting Notes:
Brilliant ruby red color. Clear aromas of grape and blackberry. Full flavors of plum, red raspberry, and blackberry.
The Grape:
Unique historic field blend. Carignane, Grenache, Muscat Blanc, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Valdeque, Palomino, Burger are some of the varieties that make up this field blend. No one grape accounts for more that 15% of this wine.
The Vineyard:
This is the oldest and smallest block of vines on the Frick Estate. Vine age is about 95 years. The Vineyard is tiny and sits next to the tasting room parking lot.
The vineyard was named Garibaldi to honor my wonderful mother-in-law Babe Garibaldi Gannon, now 95 years old. Garibaldi Vineyard is a rare example of a field blend with many compatible varieties mixed together in the same field.
I call it my museum block. Grapes are harvested together and fermented together in the same fermenter.
The Wine:
The wine is bright with a unique fruit profile that is delicious, versitile, and delightful. Aged in half new and half neutral oak. Garibaldi Vineyard produces only one barrel a year.
Drink now to 2016.
Serve with:
Babe’s favorite foods to cook and eat:
grilled cheese sandwich, zucchini frittata, spaghetti & red sauce, leg of lamb plugged with garlic, minestrone soup, tuna melt, abalone and baked potato.
